About Town of Vernon - Big Bend, WIVisit website
In March of 2014, the Town of Vernon, Wisconsin proudly celebrated its 175th anniversary. Located in the southern portion of Waukesha County, the Town of Vernon first began its existence as part of Muskego and on March 8, 1839 the Town of Vernon was created by an act of the State Legislature. Our first settlers in the Town—John Dodge, Prucius Putman, and Curtis B. and Onien Haseltine—arrived from Andover, Vermont in November of 1836. Onien Haseltine is said to be responsible for naming the Town of Vernon which some feel seem to reflect his original home of Vermont, while others say the Town was named after Mt. Vernon. Today our beautiful Town of Vernon is home to 7,600 residents where people still farm, hunt and enjoy the splendor of its land.
